All shipping rates went up in 2018, ALL regular methods (FedEx, USPS, UPS) are extremely expensive and these extra large bags have to be shipped separately. Please do not ask me to get a quote; I have done that for several buyers and the shipping is several times the cost of the Perlite. If you want to arrange with a door to door shipper, we will accommodate his schedule.
PERLITE FINE ~ 22 lb, 3 cu ft, approx. 19 dry gallons (1 cu ft = 6.4 dry gal) Redco II ~ Redcolite ~ Perlite Plaster Aggregate ~ 3 cu ft ~ Made in the USA ~ ASTM C35 UBC 47-3 Code #1
One 22 lb Bag, Size 27”x20”x 8” Fine perlite, Light Weight, Better Workability, Fireproofing, Insulating This is light weight and particles are very fine. Mix on a calm day with no wind. Recommendation: Use eye protection and breathing protection mask to minimize dust. Perlite is ideal for mixing with potting soils or peat moss to make your own blended growing medium. Make & mix your own starting mix, depending on your needs instead of purchasing pre-mixed potting medium which does not always work for every type of plant or soil and is expensive.
Perlite does not spoil or expire and can be kept and used for many years. There are many uses: hydroponics, seed starting, soil amendment conditioner, mushrooms, reptile bedding, gardening, orchids, drip irrigation system, insulation, sculpting, much more. It retains moisture but has sufficient drainage so oxygen can get to the plants’ roots. Add it to potting soil to prevent the soil from staying wet for too long. How much do you need? In a garden, generally, 9 or 10 pounds is enough for 100 pounds of soil, depending on your soil. E.g., rocky and clay soils will require more Perlite than rich black sandy loam. Add as needed to potting soil to prevent sogginess and encourage drainage. Make your own seed starting mix with Perlite, peat moss and garden soil.
Perlite is natural volcanic rock that has been expanded at high temperature and the result is lightweight particles that promote plant growth. It is extremely lightweight & has a variety of uses, especially horticultural. It allows aeration and drainage of root systems and solves many problems of the home gardener. Add it to heavy clay soils, rocky soils, and planter boxes to assist drainage and allow plant roots to grow uninhibited. Perlite facilitates re-wetting, has high water holding capacity, is non-abrasive, non-irritant, inorganic, sterile, with no known toxicity or fire hazard, absorbs excess nutrients, low alkalinity, free from disease, weeds and insects, good air holding capacity, insulates & minimizes soil temp fluctuations, and does not deteriorate in storage if kept dry. If you do not need the entire bag, it can be stored and will retain its original usefulness year to year.
