It’s a beautiful species of Lichen with erect hollow branches that are caped with distinctive red fruiting bodies which is where the common name comes from. In the spring it’s greener and redder than at other times of year.  They burst with color when watered but don’t require much water at all. It can be found on the ground or on dead wood. We find it on hikes and occasionally on our own property also.  We harvest with respect for nature. Meaning we don’t over harvest any one particular area.
Red Soldier lichen is a popular favorite in Terrariums.
These are a live plant and wild harvested. We try to pick out only the best looking but occasionally there are small blemishes, bits of soil, or bits of forest leafs.
