Is this the very rare Supercharged Version .604 or Regular Production Version .647? Please read on...
Built by Scott Motors Co in Phoenix Arizona. The Tim Daniels Model Engine Encyclopedia Volume 1 states that two models of this engine were built and they were both identical in appearance. See pictures #5 and #6. There is Supercharged .604 version and the Regular .647 version. The engine up for auction here has the words "Supercharged Thunderbird" stamped on the top left of the fuel tank. This would leave me to believe this is the more rare version as shown in picture #5... But. when I look at a number stamped on the right side of the engine mounting lug it says 1100. If this is a inventory production number of how many were built then it must be the regular .647 version, picture #6. Picture #7 shows the inscribed "Supercharged Thunderbird" and picture #12 shows the inscribed number 1100 in the engine lug mount.
If anyone can help clarify which model this is I would certainly appreciate it very much. I am going to have to let you make up your own mind on which engine this is. All I can do is give you all the information I have and a good representation in pictures.
Built in 1946, this engine is in very good shape for being 76 years old. The engine has a beautiful polished almost "chrome" like finish. Very clean, no gunk or dried fuel buildup. Compression is excellent and the engine turns over smoothly. The ignition timer bar is in the back and works very smoothly. Includes New Spark plug, fuel tank all prop mounting hardware.
Don't miss this opportunity to add one of these illusive Thunderbird engines to your ignition collection.
Good luck and thanks for looking...
